wouldn't you hate a transformative technology that's upending your entire way of life, ruining job searches, ending entire job lines, using up insane amounts of water and power, raising prices everywhere etc etc?? P.S I'm an all-AI stocks port guy, but to ask "why does the population hate this monster of a tech era where literal humans are replaced by it and rendered useless" is a weird one even for me.

Because a meaningful % of Reddit reeeeaaaaally dislikes the market going up a lot.

I think a negative on AI that I see is Reddit. AI has been a net negative to discussions on here, which had already eroded considerably since covid. AI has absolutely, positively not been used to improve research (which would wind up improving discussions), it has been used 99% of the time on here to create word salad posts that hype up (rarely if ever are the AI posts a balanced take on the name in question) stocks. Posts that the majority of time nobody clearly bothered to edit, check facts, add anything to (so it all just starts to seem like one person writing an increasing number of posts, given the similar characteristics), etc - just copy paste.

Because people on Reddit love to complain

Everyone loves to hate a winner

People have negative feelings towards things they don’t understand.

And the average person doesn’t understand much.

Now that we're building out all this infrastructure, we probably won't feel the real AI boom until the next few years

Chinese models reached parity.
Anthropic/openai business model are based on them being in a lead and dictating prices. BUt now they cant, and will never be able to.
Everyone knows anthropic/openai valuations are total fraud, but we will be forced to buy them under completely overblown valuations.

reddit has a tendency to be detached from real life and not representative of normal people.

take that and add on that it has lots of redditors questioning their own self worth and what value they bring to the table themselves, and you get an angry backlash.

the ai backlash is more of a reddit thing than a real world thing. just remember, the people saying that ai is a fad that will go away are the same people that said oil was dead in 2020/2021.

On the stock side, it's going to be extremely difficult for AI to be profitable. They're hemorrhaging money right now, and the goal will be to eventually transition to token usage based billing. But that will be EXTREMELY expensive. I wouldn't be surprised to see corporate clients cut back on AI once the true financial costs are revealed.

On the other side, fuck AI for draining natural resources.

AI isn't a fad, it's extremely powerful and it's here to stay - but its effect on humanity and the Earth is probably going to be catastrophic (increasing already massive wealth inequality by automating jobs, affecting daily life to the point where you can't tell what's real versus what's not, fueling catastrophic climate change, providing new tools to commit war crimes and human rights abuses, rise of low quality "slop" pervading work and life and relationships, potential human extinction by superintelligence, etc).

That said - hating AI stocks is distinct to hating AI, you may still be able to get super wealthy from it by investing in the right stocks.

I don't hate A, even love AI, as long as they give me UBI.

Because they're insanely unprofitable, cash burning machines, trading at astronomical valuations, with no clear path to ever becoming profitable, while also having a very clean plan to light further hundreds of billions, maybe trillions on fire, for no good reason.

Lots of people on reddit work in domains where their job/job quality is at risk due to AI, such as IT.

Because a lot of people (me included) feel like we missed the boat on the stock price. Not that I am showing hate, but it is frustrating to see so much hype

Perfect to miss the rocket when people keep calling it a bubble (assume putting their money where their mouth is) since Nvda $40. There were many hated rallies in the last few years.

But then the PR in these industries are terrible. Companies use AI as excuse to layoff workers to mask their bad corporate decisions and pump the stock.

Are you prepared to live in a world where water is prioritized for data centers and not for humans? Do you understand what that means? Water is needed to grow the food you eat, water is needed to rear the animals that become meat, water is needed for basic survival. Will you be ok with no water?

Well, you cannot because you will be dead by then without water.

This is why AI is unpopular. Just go to YouTube and watch the videos from rural towns where data centers have popped up and how people are no longer able to sleep because of the crazy noise, and how the water is scarce. Have you heard about Lake Tahoe where the energy utility provider told an entire town that they won't provide electricity to them anymore because they signed a contract with a data center to provide electricity exclusively to them?

Get the fuck out of your stock trading bubble and see how AI is negatively affecting humans outside your bubble.

It's like the internet and y2k all over again.
