When I started dating my girlfriend she loved shopping at this store called Aritzia… I had never heard of it but every weekend they was a line for the fitting room and to check out… this was around 2022… it’s up about 200% since them… another was when I saw a bunch of girls at school getting these blind boxes and putting labubus on their bags… Popmart is up like 10x since then which was around 2023… both times I said this is dumb, the appeal don’t hit me but it his with the general population… learning lesson it’s not about you it’s about the average

I remember in Q1 2024 I was shopping for Zyns and had to go to 5 convenience stores to get any. I charted $PM that week and noticed it was pretty undervalued, but didn’t follow up on more DD or enter a trade. There was a nationwide Zyn shortage, which I learned later.

$PM did a 2x move after that.

Anyone working in the shipping industry knows UPS is undervalued AF and the people messing around with options on its stock are going to get *fuuuucked* at some point.

Ok, this one goes back a while. Around 1980, my sister as a twenty something led a group of teenagers on a trip to Germany. The sponsoring organization went bankrupt while they were in Germany, stranding the kids with my sister and one other leader. This other leader and my sister bonded while they dealt with this disaster. When she arrived back in the US she told us about the whole thing, and said about the other leader, ‘her father is like a doctor but also a businessman and he’s starting some kind of new company making new kinds of drugs.’ My mother asked what the company was called. She didn’t know, but would ask. A week later she reported back that the company was called ‘Amgen’. And my mother thought, what the heck, and bought some shares in this crazy new venture. I’m not sure what the basis was, probably a couple thousand dollars. But after numerous splits it’s now 4500 shares worth $1.4mm.

My grandfather told me to buy some lam research back in 2016 because my uncle finally stopped working there lol.  So I did and that probably shaved a few years off my retirement date.

Back in mid-1980s, a well to do doctor told me to invest in a company called Healthcare Compare or something like that. It was one of the first companies Medicare and other payers used to audit doctors and other providers for improper billing, whether outright fraud or just billing errors. In other words, I think he was saying doctors bill a lot of chit they shouldn't, which has proven true over the years.

I didn't have a lot, but invested a few thousand. I swear, that stock kept increasing, splitting, increasing and spliting. I'd sell every split, but keep the origial shares. It basically funded my starting a consulting business with some other guys for well over a year of no salary.

Unfortunately, my luck was not so good after that. But life is good.
