Easy. Have more than $5k in your account. If you’re trading $1m account, making $500 would be embarrassingly small. If you’re going to compare yourself to other people, at least do it on a percentage basis. But better to not compare at all

For me I trade extremely volatile stocks. Share size is based on stock price, volatility, and liquidity

Seeing people posting those profits vs an actual long term track record are totally different stories. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you need a six figure account and the first number shouldn't be 1. Don't be seduced by bullshit. I'll leave it at that.

This depends on a variety of factors. What are you trading? How many shares are you trading? How much of a move are you looking for when you enter a trade? I have a small cash account ($3K), and I mostly scalp, looking for 10 to 20 cents in any given trade, with anywhere between 10-40 shares per trade. I mostly trade small cap stocks below $20, to give myself about 10-15 trades per day, give or take. My goal is slowly scale up and also keep adding to my account so I can begin to take a larger share size and/or trade higher-priced stocks. Are you trading in a cash account, or a margin account and avoiding the PDT designation? For me, that's why the upcoming elimination the PDT rule is so important: it's going to unlock instant trade settlement, making it much easier to trade with a small amount of cash since I won't run out of settled money each day.

Usually buying about 3k shares, daily average 1.5k, sometimes one bananas trade, sometimes 12 tiny ones.

They are lying to you.

Options are a gift and a curse. Not for beginners.

The key is risk management not dollars per day. Learn then scale.

Its all based on percentage and risk reward . Those big amounts you see are probably from prop firm accounts, not personal

You sound like you are trying to trade properly and appropriately manage your risks The users in this sub who only have 2k on hand and who also _make_ 2k returns in one day, are just throwing all caution to the wind and outright gambling. There is no other way to categorize what they are doing. Those guys are going to be the first to come here and crow about it when they are winning, but when they inevitably lose it all, only a very small handful come back and admit they had it wrong and flew too close to the sun. It’s basic high risk, high reward. Sure you can make a lot, but you are just as likely to lose it all in a heartbeat. The traders that actually make a living are making around 1% per day, on average, which means sometimes they are up 2% and sometimes down 1%, but it averages to a net positive of 1%. Its a slow grind.

Futures nq and gold small moves can pay out big but small moves opposite will lose also

Leverage, outside the US CFD's make that sort of size very possible

I Go in with 8-10K per trade and start selling off at 20%/50%/80%/100% perfect world but if I am being safe, I sell 80% at a 20% profit then let the rest ride unless I see the trade slowing down the just close it wherever it is or my trailing gets wicked. At the moment though I am like you because I had to replace my AC so my account is LOW!
