It’s a lot simpler to accept when you believe The market is broken. I won’t do the stupid thing and try and pick a date but things have gotten past common sense. Nothing is based on hard fact anymore. When companies that don’t make money are worth more than decades old profitable companies because it feels like it should be , we’ve lost the plot.

If there isn’t a massive crash coming to correct I don’t know how to keep investing in the future.

$1.77 trillion for a company that lost $5 billion is either galaxy-brain finance or staring into the sun and calling it research.

Bull case: rocket monopoly, internet monopoly, defense money printer, government utility, plus future space stuff that currently lives in PowerPoint. If all that happens, numbers are decorative.

Bear case: investors bought the sequel, prequel, and extended universe before episode one made money.

When a valuation needs multiple new industries, perfect execution, and several decades of destiny, the spreadsheet starts sounding suspiciously like scripture.

Of course it’s not fundamentally justified, but that’s not how the modern market works anymore. It’s all about whether the stock can run or not. That’s it. There’s a lot who want to profit with Elon on this and they may control a lot of capital, so it has the potential to do some irrational things.

For those unaware: 
By floating only a tiny amount of shares (4-5%), SpaceX can establish and maintain an astronomical $1.75+ trillion valuation using only a small amount of actual market money. 
If they tried to sell 50% of the company today, there wouldn't be enough cash in the market willing to pay that price, and the valuation would crash. The low float creates an illusion of infinite demand.

Why it's the ultimate exit liquidity, and quite frankly a masterplan that will screw retail investors:

Early private investors and employees who have held SpaceX stock for years want to cash out and become rich. The problem with cashing out billions of dollars is finding someone to buy all those shares. By forcing passive ETFs (like QUU, VTI, etc.) to buy mechanically at a price nobody would buy otherwise, SpaceX has created a guaranteed, price-insensitive buyer. Regular retail investors retirement funds become the exit liquidity that allows insiders to cash out at the absolute top. 

No but a non-0 portion of retail investing (and even institutional these days) investing is meme/hype plays. We’ve all seen some pretty irrational stuff that wasn’t at all justified.

Everyone is trying to rationalize and dump on SpaceX, probably due to Elon political stuff. But cmon, let’s be real this stock is gonna rocket up short term and then really come back to reality in the coming months. A lot of people will make a lot of money in the early window before the rug pull happens.

It’ll be a good long term play AFTER the hype train comes off the rails in a couple months and you can buy in or average down then.

A very quick way to value a company is a multiple times revenue. Small mom and pop businesses can be valued around 3x revenue. Established large publicly traded companies are often around 4-7x revenue. Nvidia is about 20x

SpaceX is asking 97x revenue. All while peddling crap about “extending life consciousness to the stars” or some bullshit like that.

Anyway, yes SpaceX is overvalued. Also the first people who reach Mars will most likely die on Mars, data centers in space are an asinine idea, and xAI has no competitive moat.

Is a bar of chocolate that took $0.50c to produce and package worth $2.50? Intrinsically no, the market will dictate what it will and won’t sell for.

Stop with all these valuation posts. Valuation is only a concern for companies with a legit business. Elon is selling childhood dreams and the price may vary depending on the individual. It's a cult.

While I think Elon's companies are overrated and overvalued, at least he dreams big with a chance of actually succeeding or "breeding" the way for those goals.
