It can be done but it is certainly not easy or even likely that you will be successful on such a small account. People do it and I'm sure some of them will chime in but for me it would be very tough.

Maybe focus on futures so you can atleast avoid PDT until the rules get changed.

$2000 is perfect because it gives you margin to trade spreads. This is the best and safest way to grow a small account.

So many people get lured into thinking that they can start day trading full time when they just began learning. You can have a hot Market and you can have a cold Market, but unless you've experienced those and have maybe four or five years of profitable trades behind you then you might be able to say you could do it full time. This is not an Endeavor to take lightly.

If you’ve only been paper trading for a week, I’d keep paper trading for a while longer, then maybe go live very small just to feel real execution/emotion. Not to make income, just to learn how you behave when real money is involved.

Also, I’d be careful with the idea of going full-time in a couple months. Trading full-time before you’ve proven consistency can make every loss feel like rent money, and that’s a terrible mental place to trade from.

My honest advice: keep the job, keep saving, paper trade longer, then go live small. The goal early on shouldn’t be “can I make money from this?” It should be “can I follow my rules when there’s real money on the line?”

Start with a prop firm account instead of cash. You can get a TakeProfitTrader $25,000K account for under $100. Make your mistakes there. Then, when you have proven that you can past a couple of evals and get funded, use those funds for a cash account.

I started my day trading account with $2k as well about a month ago. Unless you’re willing to do high risk/high reward (not recommended), just focus on little wins for now. My goal personally is averaging 0.5-1.0% gain per day. If you risk small and stick to your strategy, no reason you can’t build it over time. Just don’t expect massive wins with such a small account!

I started with 1,000! I wasn’t looking to get rich overnight. You can start with $200 if that’s what you have to spare! Don’t be discouraged.

I found my niche to be with pharma companies. Maybe because in my career I work with them.

I hate to break it to you, but becoming consistently profitable in trading is an insanely difficult and extremely lengthy and painful process.

The reality is that You are neither going to become profitable nor a full-time trader in two months, it s more likely in 6-8 years if you show up every day and keep at it and don't give up.

You are also likely to get scammed by signal groups, trading "gurus" and course sellers, and will get a lot of bad advice from YouTube idiots that you will have to weed out until you eventually figure out how the market really works.

And to answer your question, 2k is more than enough if you use prop firm accounts.

Save the $2000, you have a 99.9% chance of blowing it in your first months.

Buy cheap prop firm accounts like $50 for 10k. That's your trading bootcamp, to build your system, discipline and patience.

If in a year from now you can get a couple payouts, go live with whatever capital you have.


OR, you can start with your $2000 and lose it, then same process as above, if you really wanna go hardcore and actually feel the pain you are going to deal with on a daily basis to learn that losing is part of the game.

The most important advice is to find your method that's suits your style, and build confidence that your wins are not just lucky trades but a measurable edge you can rely on when in a drawdown or when market is being silly.
