I've been trading almost 2 decades, and trade full time as my main source of income. It's the single hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life and took me YEARS to get to a point where I was properly consistent - as in, this is a serious income, not additional or top up / hobby type income. Is it gambling? If you don't know what you are doing - 100% yes. This is almost everyone in the beginning unless you have previously worked at a trading desk or had a mentor who has worked in the industry professionally. The same way if you started a business in a field you know nothing about. That's taking a gamble. Once I learned to trade as a business, manage risk like a professional and understand the instrument and asset classes I trade, it all started to click. Now, it's not gambling but trading. I am trading something I understand. I understand the risk involved, the math used to underwrite my risk tolerance and money management over the long term. It can be done, but it takes a lot of genuine work - it is not a get rich quick scheme (which seems to be the gambling you are referring to). I say this because if you use percentages and work only in percentages, you will never blow an account. That's the first thing you learn on a trading desk. Gamblers oversize, have bad timing, revenge trade, chase, have FOMO, let greed dictate, prefer speculation and directional bias over structure, research and planning.
