How do they look perfect on paper? You pay lots of money to trade what isn't even yours, and then get refused a payout anyway. Drawdowns are deliberately small to make you pay more to "retry".

people are generally against props because the business model rewards failure of the clients and punished success (most of the time). since there is not live trading being done they can be said to run on a ponzi like basis. as a profitable trader using a decent prop you can make money (a lot, in some cases). then comes the ethical consideration because the people's money you are getting were tricked in a sense (ponzi model). whether that's unethical on the profitable prop trader's side is up for debate. you are taking money from someone who may have been mislead about the nature of the trades they were placing in the market. however, you have also just taken money from betting better inside of a game emulating the real market - so if the game was played in the real market, you'd have taken their money anyway. >main downsides  you might be profitable and not be paid. some firms will look for any reason to not pay you because you are a liability. the worst ones, never pay a winning trader.

Props are currently in a business model shift (trying to switch more to live). Fewer traders are failing while many winning traders keep using props, both leading to less revenue. Stick to small payouts and you should be fine, a prop is still better than blowing a live account when first starting out. Disclaimer: I have never used a prop, I just watch interviews where multiple prop owners have admitted to reduced revenue and attempting a shift more towards live trading.
