A lot of names topped last year and are at serious discounts to those highs. A lot of names will continue making new all-time highs this year. All anyone can really do is follow the trend, beyond that they're trying to predict the future which will never provide a meaningful repeatable edge.
Personally the trend on the hour chart is the most important to me as a day trader. SPY rolled over today and price closed below what I use to determine the trend. If the slope of that trend steepens, I'll trade it to the downside. If it stays flat, I'll stay out of the way. If the slope points back up, I'll trade it to the upside. That's all I really think about as far as market tops are concerned.
