You need an edge.
You need risk mgmt rules
You need to be emotionally neutral.
You need extensive and intensive preparation studying the markets so that you reduce stress from not knowing.

You must know that a good day isn’t determined by your PnL, it’s determined by how well you follow your rules and your plan.
You must know that it will take years to be good at this. You wouldn’t be able to trade for a living immediately.

Most people fail in trading because they don't respect the market's brutal honesty. They chase trades based on emotion, lack a solid edge, and fail to adapt to changing market conditions. It's not just about strategy; it's about discipline and understanding market catalysts like Fed decisions or geopolitical tensions that can shift the entire trading landscape.

People emotionally trade and I’ve definitely done it and paid the price. I like to only use 10% of the portfolio to trade with. Seems like the rule of thumb. Some may use less but it’s trader dependent. Don’t yolo. Setup a trade and execute whether it’s a gain or loss. Don’t try to revenge trade. It never works out. If you’re shitting the bed for the day take a break. The market will always be there. Your state of mind won’t.

I firmly believe it's the risk management... That is the key. Aunt no psychology or strategy.. It is risk management. The market goes up and down if you hold your trade long enough most times it will come back to the price you bought so generally you won't lose money if you can hold out long enough, but the key to holding out long enough is the amount risked on the trade.

No one can take off with a new business without researching, studying hard, planning well and continuously improving performance. Trading is no different, just the fact it's so easy to embark on a trader's journey, way less restricted and extremely fast and brutal in showing results which makes trading job failures that notorious.

Study the markets, tools, different trading aspects (including psychology)

Plan a strategy that's not very common, think of it like your unique product or service

Strategise your market engagement & document in details.

Back test thoroughly.

Pilot with very small capital.

Review success and failure.

Double down on successful trades, criticise/fix/avoid failed ones.

Scale up gradually compounding profits.

Extract some profit and redeploy into another business (like a partnership, accumulating assets, realestate..etc) as insurance and diversification.

It's also very important to put ego aside, and watch out for the "I'm different" thoughts that come with the first few wins.

It’s a bit of everything. 
From psychology to lack of edge, no self control etc. 
Also somehow is not a job that is taken serious, everyone either dismisses you as luckily and impossible to beat the index or that much be so easy to press a button can you quickly teach me.
