The fact you haven’t blown your account already tells me you’ve got what it takes. Keep learning and keep grinding, sounds like you’ve already mastered the hard part of not gambling. Small adjustments from where you are just now and you’ll soon turn profitable.

I have been trading for over 15 years, profitably for a decade or so. In all that time I have never met another retail day trader that has managed to become consistently profitable within their first 2 or 3 years. Keep in mind the vast vast majority never become profitable even sticking with it for years. You have been at this 3 months, you have barely begun. When you are setting your expectations for progress, the timeline for consistently profitable is years not months, if ever. My best advice (keep in mind everyone trades differently so what works for me might not be the best style of trading for you) is to get the hell away from small cap momentum and move to day trading the indexes via futures. No PDT, no wash sales, trade setups every single day and never have to worry about halts again. I started in small cap momentum, failed miserably and then found great success with the indexes. Now adays the only thing I trade are SP500 futures (ES/MES) and the occasional SPY option. Best of luck! And happy to answer any specific questions if you have them.

3 months is very early, but your own data is already telling you the issue: a few oversized losses wipe out everything else. I’d stop scaling for now, reduce size, and practice cutting losers before adding more trades. [tradelabhq.co](http://tradelabhq.co) can help you get reps without paying for each mistake.

You are doing the right thing with trading at a small size. I wouldn’t be tempted to go larger until you are consistently profitable. Better to learn the lessons when it won’t impact your life/financies. For me, I spent several years doing the classic chasing all the different strategies before I finally focussed on what just works for me. It’s a bit of a rite of passage and I’m not sure it needed to take me several years to learn that there are so many different ways to trade successfully that it’s all about what works with your emotions and brain. The problem with giving you advice about how long it will take to get where you want to be is that there are a lot of variables. There are some people who I bet are intuitively just more naturally gifted towards having a cool head and a lot of self control to be able to trade well. Background does matter as well, ie some people have a starting advantage with knowledge from family etc. We’re talking about a scale of people who grew up with parents who dabble in investing or are full time traders, down to people like myself (which is a lot of us) have zero family understanding/awareness of financial/investing worlds. There are also some people who will straight up grasp all the economics and fundamental side of trading very quickly. Another big factor is also obviously how much time you have to invest in learning and how much time you are able to actually trade each day. Only you know where you fit amidst those. Personally, I think if you manage to be profitable in your first 12 months all on your own then you are in a top % of traders and have a bright future ahead of you. I’ve found most people talk about a period of a few years that it took them to get going. Which means having enough skill to survive financially during that period and the drive to keep going. But you obviously do have some skill-aptitude already as you have survived a draw down and clawed your way back. That doesn’t count for nothing. For me, I’m the kind of idiotic learner who has to experience something to really learn it. Others seem to be able to read the theory of traps not to jump into and avoid them. It seems I like to learn by jumping into the traps with both feet. Several times over. Before it sinks in that I’m not to do it. But the upside is that I do this because I really want to learn how stuff works and I think it would not be possible for me to be successful with trading unless I really understand it all. It’s just the way I am. But which means it takes time. I’ve taken my account all the way down, back to profitable, three times over. I’m currently trying to achieve what I call escape velocity. For me, my main edge is that I’ve learned a bit of feel for what the market is doing, so I know when to take positions and when to just go touch grass for a bit. For me, I had to learn this over time with a lot of chart time and disappointment. I don’t think I could have done it any other way, but that’s just me.

저는 이런 과정들을 통해 많이 배웠고, 좋은 도움 될 만한 책들도 추천합니다: 『The Mental Game of Trading』, 『The Obstacle Is The Way』, 『The Disciplined Trader』, 『Meditations』.

whats up man, little back round about me, ive been trading forex and now gold for about 7-8 months and have been through the loops. im sure youve come to understand what i mean by the loops. what ive come to learn over my slightly larger amount of time: 1) progression isnt measured outcomes. its measured by a few mental improvements that inevitably lead to outcomes. for example i would name: clarity, risk appetite (the mental switch of not making money, but preserving your capital), ability to stay consistent, and losing that feeling of caring about every single little loss (especially good ones), and finally a better understanding of yourself and what triggers you to do bad things like cutting your wins or taking unesary emotional losses. and things along the lines of that. think of progression in trading as "do i understand myself better as a person and a trader than last month?", "can i consistently execute better than before without losing control". 2) consistent 'optimization' is actually killing your results. like you mentioned above, you said you were looking to get into a strategy that more fits your psychological profile. this makes complete sense, this is something that i did as well i went from longer termed trades, to a more in and out strategy. but you have to be careful with that. what killed me for so long was that i was constantly "tweaking" my strat, making weird small rules, trying everything to get the best win rate that i could and keeping a highish RR. i would watch all sorts of yt videos trying to learn as much as possible to constantly increase my win rate. but in the end what i really learned is that this constant optimization that i was searching for dosnt really exist and more times than not ends you up with; over complication, confusion and for me analysis paralysis. dont get me wrong there are plenty of traders that play both sides of that; having a high RR and low win rate or a high win rate with lower RR. but at the end of the day in my eyes you need at least an average of 1:2 to be profitable. this is because you are going to go through periods of drawdown where you loose 5 in a row simply due to probabilities and if youre targetting a 1:1.5 thats just not going to make up for it. finding a good middle ground that works for you, makes sense to you is the key. 3) keeping your losses small. losses are inevitable (good and bad) ive learned that i am never going to escape bad losses, and that is something that took me a long time to come to terms with. even the best traders fomo (in a more controlled way but still). d if you can recognize in the moment that you fomo'd or that it you are very aware that you have been proven wrong even before your stop gets hit, then admit it to yourself and cutt your loss and move on. self acceptance and self critisim have also been a big struggle for me. and that was defently a lesson. that goes the same with profits. when a trade is in profit for me the way i manage it is setting my stop to b/e about half way through or at a significant level where it would prove me wrong if it reversed and i either take partials or let it run to full tp. of course theres a differece because i trade forex but still. 4) knowing YOUR edge and staying consistent. one of the things i have learned as well is that the only way one would ever be profitable, is to understand why they specifically have an edge over say another person and they do something specifically different / their own way. for some, they might be faster, some in the forex market could be really good at interpriting a specific central banks tone and make trades based on wheather interest rates will go up down (sorry for lack of corresponding example i only trade forex). for me understanding why my startegy works, and why i have an edge executing it over someone else makes a big difference. further, once you know something specifically works (backtested forward tested etc) dont fuck with it or change it without data that supports your hypotheses, and execute it completely and utterly consistent. 5) systemize absolutly everything. systemize how you get ready for the market every morning, systemize how for you in your example pick your stocks, systemize entry criteria, exit criteria, etc. that also goes for life as well. in trading your absolute goal isnt profit or winning; its consistency. to be consistent, in trading you have to be consistent in the other aspects of your life to. if you have ever heard someone say something along the lines of trading brings out the flaws in you, it is becasue it is absolutly true. to be successful in trading you have to systemize and simplify as much as possible to the point where you are a monkey pressing a button in hopes for a banana, and if you happen to not get a banana, you know that 40%-60% of the time youre gonna get a banana so dont be upset when you dont. 6) self understanding. the biggest problems in trading isnt strategy, its you. i heard once that "in trading; you are the problem, but you are also the solution". 90% of your problems stem from you and your decsions. The key to imporvement is understanding the decsion that cause you to take 'uneccisary' losses, what physically triggered them, why you reacted that way, and what can you do either in your behaviors or thoughts to stop this from happening. for me for example. i noticed that in a lot of my sht trades, i felt like i was chasing something and i needed to get in. turns out, this was because my body is so addicted to dopamine (in my case it was actually from sugar beleive it or not) that when i deprived my self from eating a lot of sugar the night before or skipped breakfast; i would actually be a lot more likley to make bad decsions than on the days where i let my self get a sugar dopamine release from food the morning of or night before. trading well is more about knowing yourself than it is from strategy and that simply only comes from time. i defently rambled slightly to much and that was a little all over the place, but i really hope it helps and i hope that it pushes the ball forward a bit cause i know that it would have for me. if you are serious about continueous improvement i recomend a couple books you should look into. 1) the mental game of trading - jared tendler 2) the obstacle is the way - ryan holiday 3) the disciplined trader (and sequeal) - mark douglas 4) meditations - marcus aurelius not all trading specific books but all absolutly correlate to the trading journey, self understanding and actually how to improve your trading. once again really hope this helps!
