When random people who don't typically follow stocks are interested in a stock because they've seen it hyped, that's usually a pretty good signal to stay away from it.

Could be completely wrong, but there's a LOT about this IPO that seems very fishy (NASDAQ changing inclusion rules, Elon folding the dumpster fire that is X into the company, the shorter-than-usual exclusion period before investors can sell)

If she wants to hold the shares for 20 years, she might want to buy. But even then she can probably pick up 50 shares for the price of 15 at IPO price, because I think it will dip down to sub $50 a share a few weeks after opening.

Redditors hate Elon so they’ll tell you not to do it. But nobody besides the insiders really know what will happen.

At the IPO price, SPCX is being valued close to what AVGO is worth and more than META.

SPCX lost about $5b last year. Meanwhile AVGO makes over $20b in profit and META over $60b in profit. AVGO earnings growth is very high and expected to remain that way for some time, hence the valuation differences.

So in SPCX you are buying a comparatively overvalued stock by any and every measure, and only comparable to TSLA. TSLA by the way makes 4x less profit than KO, but valuation is 4x more. Forget about even trying to compare TSLA to AVGO META and the true mega caps.

From what I've read, there are many more people wanting to buy SpaceX then there are shares available. So she probably can't get any shares right away and the prices will be high when some are freed up. Tell her to wait six months to a year. They may continue to rise in value but historically prices fall on IPO offerings and 60% are less expensive three years later. Or maybe it triples in price. Sometimes the commonsense answer means that you miss opportunities. With the frequent talk about 'bubbles' there's a possibility that all the meme stocks will suffer within the next year.
