Going to college does not make or break a trader. People that make a living trading are few and far between.

Picking the brains of successful traders is better than any college. Id say college is better for institutional jobs as a consultant for Bloomberg ect ect. Where you are qualified to give your take. Trading itself is all about experience.

Computer science and applied mathematics

I've seen one profession on podcasts and interviews (like rising stars on tasty trade) over and over again. Electrical Engineers. I work with one who is a fantastic trader. I am not an electrical engineer and I think perhaps why I'm not a great trader.

time in the charts beats any degree, that said i’m a senior in finance

I've a degree in economics and masters in mathematical finance. Spend 9 years in bank before going full time in self trading.

I studied psychology. I can’t say I learned anything material in college which helps but having an interest in psychology is I think really helpful to being successful as a trader and an investor

Did a business degree but I wouldn't say I used much of that knowledge towards trading

Masters in Finance, secondary strategic management MBA Finance and Accounting Career: Chief Financial Officer Did I need any of that to be successful in the market? NO! However, having a great career does provide you the capital to invest in the market and then start to be profitable and make money that way. It \*can help with controlling emotions and discipline because depending on your career path, you'll have to practice that a lot. Basically, if you are in University/College and get a good career from your education/degree, that goes a long way to getting you started in the market and allowing you the wiggle room to make mistakes and go through your growing pains without destroying your life. People here always look for an "edge" in trading. Having a great career to supplement your trading until you can be profitable is the actual edge. It's just that nobody really wants to talk about it because unless you're already there, it's not an "instant" edge you can get. It takes years!

College to become a Firefighter/E.M.T, spent 8 years in the service.

It’s a different world today than when I went to college. Sure I used my undergrad finance and accounting degree knowledge (1988) and my accounting MBA from 1995 back then. Today markets aren’t perfect at all, and AI is used for research. If anything, markets today are completely imperfect and you can’t use quantitative/ common sense. Today it’s about hype and money movement. Oh, and excess liquidity.

I just recently listened back a few episodes of chat with traders (before it went wonky). Systematic algo traders tend to have a maths/engineering background from education. Discretionary traders are from all walks of life, but the consistent trait was discipline - nothing to do with education. Military backgrounds were common at one interviewees funds. Good luck!
