지금 다니는 직장이 너무 힘들고 보상도 적어 전업으로 트레이딩을 하고 싶다는 고민입니다. 직장을 그만두고 트레이딩만으로 생활하려면 충분한 준비와 계획이 필수라는 점에서 신중해야 합니다. 안정적인 수익과 자본 마련, 그리고 위험 관리 능력을 키우는 것이 가장 중요합니다.

저는 국제 금융 회사의 콜센터에서 2년 반 정도 일하고 있습니다. 주로 주주나 중개인들과 통화하고 CRM 소프트웨어를 사용해요. 연봉이 4600만 원 정도인데, 정말 일하면서 마음이 너무 힘듭니다. 새내기를 착취하는 것 같은 직장이죠. 게다가 제 매니저는 여러 번 거짓말을 했고 제 편도 제대로 들어주지 않았어요.

수학 학위를 갖고 있고 알고리즘 트레이딩과 단기 매매 경험도 있습니다. 제 안에서 외치듯 이 직장을 그만두고 싶다는 마음이 커요. 새해 꿈에서도 그만두라는 신호를 받았을 정도입니다.

혹시 저와 같은 상황이었다가 용기를 내어 전업 트레이딩으로 전환한 분 계신가요? 경험이 어떠셨는지 정말 궁금합니다.

리스크 관리를 잘하고 꾸준히 수익을 낼 수 있다는 것을 스스로 증명했다면 그만두세요. 그렇지 않으면 생활비를 벌 수 있는 직장을 유지하면서 지속 가능성을 증명할 때까지 기다리는 게 좋습니다.

Only do it if you have already proven to yourself you can manage your risk and be consistently profitable. Otherwise, hold onto *a* job that pays the bills until you can prove that you can indeed make this sustainable.

압박감 속에서 돈 벌기는 어렵습니다. 쉽다면 다들 했겠죠. 학위는 트레이딩에 크게 중요하지 않아요. '약간'의 경험이 있다니 오히려 실패할 가능성이 커 보입니다.

Good luck making money when the pressure is on. If it was easy everybody would do it. Your degrees do not matter for trading. "Some" trading experience sounds more like you're gonna blow it up.

수학 전공이니 퀀트 쪽으로 가는 게 어떨까요? 개인 단기 매매는 처음부터 주된 수입원이 될 수 없습니다. 대부분 부수입으로 하다가 트레이딩 수입이 본업 수입을 넘길 때 전업으로 전환하죠. 아니면 재정적으로 무리하는 겁니다. 결과가 좋지 않을 가능성이 큽니다.

Why not become a quant with your math background?

Retail day trading is not meant to be a primary source of income when you're first starting out. People do it as a side thing until the trading income surpasses their main source of income. Then and only then, can they think about switching to pursue trading as a primary source of income. Otherwise you're just being financially reckless and it will most likely not end well for you.

You have a math degree and algo experience? You are vastly underemployed at a call center.

Don't rage quit to trade full-time yet. Rage quit to find a Data Analyst or Quant role first. You could easily double your salary, reduce the stress, and use that extra capital to fund your trading account. Trading with the pressure of 'needing' to pay bills is a recipe for disaster.

전 별 다른 계획 없이 직장을 때려쳤는데 지금 완전 빈털터리예요. 최소한 일부 생활비를 버는 아르바이트라도 하세요. 아니면 풀타임 일은 해야 합니다. 일하면서 매매하는 게 매일 트레이딩 하면서 잃는 것보다 수익이 더 났어요.

Bro I quit my job without a plan b and I’m broke asf rn lol. My advice is to at least have a part time job that’ll pay your bills. If not then you have to work full time. I’ve traded less when I was working and made more money than trading everyday and losing.

You should only quit once you have enough capital to either use for the time it’ll take you to learn how to be consistently profitable (no clue how long that’ll take) or be already consistently profitable with enough capital.

트레이딩은 세상에서 가장 힘든 직장보다도 스트레스가 훨씬 심할 거예요. 콜센터 일은 그에 비하면 아주 쉬운 편일 겁니다. 트레이딩 말고 다른 걸 선택하세요.

생활비 주는 직장을 구하면서 필요한 시간에 트레이딩하는 방식을 추천합니다. 설령 패스트푸드 알바라도요. 매일 트레이딩에 대한 부담이 줄어듭니다.

전략을 백테스트하고 가능성이 있으면 실전하세요. 하지만 심지어 수익나는 전략도 시간이 지나면 약해지고 시장 변동으로 무용지물이 될 때가 많아요. 그땐 전략을 보류하고 새 전략을 개발해야 합니다. 그러니 절대 직장 그만두지 마세요.

But even profitable strategies lose their edge over time, or regime changes render it useless so u need to shelve it until it starts working again, while you work on a new strategy for the new regime.

So no. Quitting your job is a no no.

전직을 먼저 해서 더 나은 직장을 구하는 게 좋겠습니다. 수학 전공에 알고리즘 트레이딩 경험이면 더 좋은 자리 많아요. 그 후 부업으로 트레이딩을 시작해 꾸준한 수익을 증명하세요. 수입이 걸리면 심리적으로 정말 힘듭니다. 행운을 빕니다!

I would quit the job and look for a better job. There gotta be a better job out there for people with a math degree and Algo trading experience. I would then pursue trading on the side until I was proven to be profitable. Trading is really hard psychologically when your income depends on it. Best of luck to you!

지난해 트레이딩으로 5만 달러 정도 벌었지만 두 가지 일도 계속 하면서 총 2만 달러 수입을 유지합니다. 트레이딩으로 평생 돈을 벌 자신이 없다면 절대 직장 그만두지 마세요.

단기 매매가 금방 큰 돈 벌기 쉽다고 생각하지 마세요. 큰돈 버는 게 더 쉽고 그다음에 직장 그만두는 게 낫습니다. 전 반대로 했는데 몇 년은 벌지 못했고 집 팔아서 버텼어요. 지금은 잘 되지만 그 기간이 힘들었죠. 금전적으로 힘들었지만 직장 그만둔 건 후회 없어요. 그 점에선 훨씬 나아졌습니다.

I wouldn't jump into day trading thinking it's that easy to make significant money. Its way easier to make significant money trading, then quit.

That said, I did do it the other way. I didn't make money for a few years, though, and had to live on below poverty income (savings from selling my house) to make it. Now its going great, but it was rough for a long time.

Well, financially it was rough. Don't regret quiting my job one bit. I was much better off in that regard.

저도 그런 마음 느껴봤어요. 지치는 직장 떠나고 싶다는 생각 정말 공감해요. 하지만 그 답답함에 성급한 결정을 하지 마세요. 전업 트레이딩은 생활비 때문인 전혀 다른 스트레스가 옵니다. 수입 있으면서 천천히 꾸준함을 쌓는 게 훨씬 낫고 스트레스도 적으며 더 좋은 선택을 하게 됩니다.

Yeah I’ve felt that pull too, so I get it. Wanting out of a draining job is very real. Just be careful not to let that frustration rush the decision. Trading full time is a totally different kind of pressure once your bills depend on it.

What usually works better is building consistency while you still have income, even if it’s slow and boring at first. Way less stress, way better decisions.
