Why go to college when you can do it on your own?

My background in finance helped my trading however today it seems more technical than fundamental therefore not sure how to answer this and perhaps community college courses on finance sufficient. How I’d approach it if starting today. You also have AI which can help explain complex concepts although without a foundation then how does one know that explained made sense.

The more educated you are the better! Have a job in mind before you enroll. Start with a JC. Get a degree in economics or finance.

Go into a trade like electrician or become a salesperson (car dealership, apartment leasing, etc), so you can get a full time job while learning how to trade on the side. If trading doesn't work out, you still have something on your resume. If you are academically gifted, go to a top university and work for Wall Street when you graduate. This route is super competitive. I'm guessing, based on how you wrote your post, that this isn't the right fit for you. What I don't recommend is learning to trade as your "full time job" right now. There's no guarantee you'll ever be profitable. You need stable income as you learn. Plus, it's nice getting healthcare insurance and social security credits from a W-2 source. If you keep your part time job, then keep your expenses very low. Live with your parents or have several roommates. Drive a beat up car. Don't eat out at restaurants. Don't travel/ go to a movie theatre/ bars. It's going to be rough. Some people make it, but some people don't. You need to love trading. If you're just doing it for "financial freedom in the next 10-15 yrs," then I have bad news for you (the odds are you won't be part of the top 10% that make it).

With AI it’s uncertain if you will be able to get a job in your field with a college degree. It’s also uncertain how day trading will be affected by AI once it’s widely used it may take some of the volatility out of the market. Time is your biggest asset so choose wisely!

I'm a Highschooler myself and I think if your able too you should definitely do some type of higher education. Trade,college, community college, or military. 2/4 of those options you can do while learning how to trade so I don't see why you wouldn't want to have some type of safety net.

Think outside of trading for a second and try to understand what you would do if you didn't trade the markets. The decision to go to college is dependent on what field you're looking to go into. If medical, finance, law, etc. then yes go to college, because the degree is valuable and necessary. College is valuable in itself for the experience and exposure you get but not worth the student loans if you have no other way to pay for it (scholarship). I recommend going into a trade or college (Specialized field), do not hinge your future on success in the markets. At bare minimum have a solid backup plan and tangible skills.

Highly Recommend trading as a side income while you focus on a different career path UNTIL you become consistently profitable and scaled into whatever income level you’re targeting. At that point, I’d then make sure I had one to two full years worth of emergency fund set aside before going full time into trading. Yes it’s a long journey but well worth it if you do it right. Skip any steps and move prematurely, you’re only gonna set yourself back further and take longer to accomplish your goals. Trading is very difficult without the added stress of having to make money every day as a trader.

Just invest a small amount and read some investing books; don't waste time with college, in my opinion. Then decide what's best for you.

Have a career you enjoy and also trade

College is cheaper then self learning but why pay for something you can experience for free Its gonna be painful ill tell you that.

Just got realize that you might not be profitable no matter how many years or hours you put into this trading thing so probably have that as a side gig while you do something else or you’ll be broke ass guy in his 40s living under the bridge on top of a cardboard boxes freezing your ass off. 99 percent of people cannot make trading profitable enough to live off and is actually a very expensive hobby for most and can be your very expensive hobby that you fund as well with a good job. Just don’t put all ur eggs in this basket and become that hobo under the bridge freezing
